07 / ACCOMMODATION

We recommend booking accommodation in Old Town. Split is a popular destination, and things tend to book up quickly. Have you wondered why we are getting married on a Monday? 🙃

Airbnb

If you are looking for more space for your €, this is for you. We are staying in an Airbnb in Old Town, across the street from the Hotel Ambassador.

💡 Tip 1: Old Town is a little hilly, so read the Airbnb instructions about the location and look at Google Maps (satellite mode).

💡 Tip 2: Many Airbnbs are on the top floor and rarely have elevators as these are old houses.

💡 Tip 3: Parking is limited in Old Town. If you plan on renting a car, best to check if your accommodation has parking included.

08 / RECOMMENDATIONS

Split & Diocletian’s Palace

Roman Emperor Diocletian commissioned his monumental retirement palace in 305 AD. The palace forms the heart of Old Town Split. After it was abandoned, homes, shops, and churches were constructed within the palace’s walls, repurposing its original structures. Explore the resulting labyrinth of narrow streets and alleys in one of the best-preserved examples of Roman architecture integrated into a living city. We also recommend strolling along the Riva Promenade, which is a bustling waterfront area lined with cafes and restaurants.

Skradin & Krka Waterfall

Skradin is a beautiful town on the water, an hour's drive from Split, located near the Krka River and at the entrance of the Krka National Park. Take a nice walk along the harbor in Skradin and rent a bike in town to get to Krka Waterfall. The bike ride takes 20-30 minutes and goes along the emerald green river. You can jump in and swim by the first bridge. Just watch out for territorial swans. The waterfalls are absolutely stunning and you can take a 40-minute walk through and around them. Skradin also has a small, but very pretty beach where you can enjoy yourself.

Trogir

Trogir is a charming town near Split that is also on the water. It’s a pretty drive there and perfect for wandering and soaking in old-town vibes. Trogir is known for its well-preserved medieval architecture and narrow streets filled with history. Just a short walk from the Old Town, you will find the Brown Beach House, a beautiful hotel with a chic pool area overlooking the water. A great lunch spot if you’re visiting Trogir.

Plitvice Lakes National Park

If you’re looking to enter Avatar, this is for you. Plitvice Lakes National Park is a little farther away (2.5 hours from Split) but completely worth the drive. It has some of the most breathtaking views we have ever seen. The cascading lakes and waterfalls are spectacular, with distinctive shades of azures and greens. The best part is that you explore the park by walking along wooden boardwalks that wind directly through waterfalls and by taking a boat ride across the largest lake.

Hvar

Hvar Island, or rather Carpe Diem, is where fate decided that Alex and Carro should meet. Hvar is a short ferry ride away from Split, known for its historic old town, harbors and beaches, and, of course, Yacht Week. Two of our favorite activities (ten years ago) were 1) driving mopeds across the island and through Hvar Old Town, and 2) going out on day excursions on small boats to Palmizana Beach and Laganini Lounge Bar & Fish House, the blue and green caves, and other secret bays the locals will tell you about.

09 / WEATHER

Early June is shoulder season in Split, meaning the weather can be a bit unpredictable. We opted for cooler weather (average of 21°C / 70°F). Yes, we’re thinking of you men in suits. If your weather app forecasts rain, don’t fear! It’s common to experience a 5-15 minute shower at some point during the day.

10 / GIFTS

No gifts. Caroline is still trying to get rid of things that have been at 315 Montana Avenue since she moved in. Your presence is the biggest gift, etc, etc. ❤️

11 / CHILDREN

For this celebration, we hope you can enjoy a night off and join us for an adults-only gathering. Please contact Caroline if you have any questions or need help planning.
